Meghan Markle Shares Heartwarming Moment with Daughter Lilibet During Nigerian Tour

Meghan Markle, the Duchess of Sussex, recently opened up about a touching moment she shared with her young daughter, Princess Lilibet, during their first international trip after stepping back from royal duties. The special memory occurred during a three-day tour of Nigeria in May 2024, which Meghan and Prince Harry embarked on as part of their humanitarian efforts.

While visiting the Lightway Academy in Nigeria, the Duchess couldn’t resist sharing a personal story with a group of eager kindergarten students. Meghan spoke to the class about her two-year-old daughter, Princess Lilibet, affectionately known as Lili. “Our daughter, Lili, she’s much, much tinier than you guys,” Meghan said with a smile. The room filled with curiosity as the Duchess continued to share a tender moment she had experienced with her daughter just weeks prior.

According to Meghan, Lilibet had been examining her mother’s face when she made a simple but profound observation. “All she could see was her reflection in my eye,” Meghan recalled. “Then she said, ‘Mama, I see myself in you.’” While Meghan acknowledged that Lili was likely being literal, simply describing the reflection, the Duchess couldn’t help but interpret the words with deeper meaning.

Reflecting on the moment, Meghan shared her thoughts with the children. “Yes, I do see myself in you, and you see me in you,” she thought to herself during that moment with her daughter. It was a beautiful reminder of the bond that exists between a mother and child—a connection that goes beyond the surface and speaks to shared values, emotions, and experiences.

Sitting next to Prince Harry, Meghan continued to engage with the students, telling them, “As I look around this room, I see myself in all of you as well.” It was a heartwarming exchange that further solidified Meghan’s connection with the children she met on the tour, as well as her desire to inspire the next generation.
